Working with a business strategist – What you can expect?
Business strategists work with organisations to identify areas for improvement within a business and develop strategies to mentor them towards success. This can include looking at the company’s current sales process and identifying ways of expanding revenue, evaluating the financial modelling including pricing to ensure that a profit will actually result, or ensuring that the company structure is appropriate and will enable the company to focus on what it needs to. They provide direction and help motivate staff to work to implement new strategies and sometimes prepare written plans to focus employees on the best way to reach set targets. They have a requirement to report to management and may also make presentations to corporate investors or others.
The process:
A business strategist or mentor is likely to undertake the following steps to improve and grow your business.
- Assessing the organisations current situation regarding all key stakeholder audiences, including customers, suppliers, competitors, and key partners
- Assessing the organisations unique advantages and inherent disadvantages or weaknesses
- Identifying and assessing new developments in the marketplace or in emerging technologies that offer opportunities or potential threats for the organisation
- Assessing the changing needs and businesses of customers and exploring areas where the organisation might strengthen, invest, or divest
- Distilling the above into a coherent analysis, and then assisting, at a strategic level, in the implementation
