After some heady years working alongside Eric Watson as Group Marketing Director of the Blue Star Group, and being part of the team that saw the business grow from $4 million to $500 million in five years, I sold out just before my 30th birthday believing that there was more to life. I was right. I’ve prostituted many of my working years to corporates, not realising until a lot later why these relationships served me so well commercially yet left me drained in other ways.

The reason is simple: It takes many times to absorb information and build a habit, so exposing sales team members to information only once is not going to gain ‘cut through’. Repetition builds skill. The Sales Refresher allows them to bring back their experiences from the real world, apply focus to their skill gaps, and then hone their skills.

The relationship between the Chair of the Board and the CEO is not meant to be that of a ‘comfy sofa’. Positive tension should exist. Push back should be expected, from both sides! This positive tension enables robust discussion, challenge and the ability to shift positions. Through this process good decisions can be made. If the CEO is in the Chair’s ‘pocket’, or vice versa, then why have the two positions?

Daily I hear of staff who are unhappy, disillusioned, don’t want to be at work etc etc. We all have days like this but if it is an ongoing feeling, something needs to be done about it.
