Business Development is so much more than a growth strategy
Business Development is multi pronged. It's not just about sales, marketing, channel management, supply chain, value creation, supply & demand, margin, scale, production capability & capacity, or competitor threat. It's about all of these and lots more, yet many Business Development strategies try to work in isolation. While one does not need to 'boil the ocean', it is important to consider the interdependencies.
I take a holistic view of a company and what it is trying to achieve in Business Development terms before prescribing a remedy. Asked if I can deliver a training programme by way of example, I will first ask what is trying to be achieved and what else will likely get in the way of success once the training is completed. There is little point moving the bottle neck. It needs to be removed.
