Over-communication, under-communication and miscommunication all cause communication issues. Written communication may not be read, people don’t hear what is said at meetings and office corridors take on a life of their own, -often with an undercurrent.

People in the organisation trying to fix communication issues can unfortunately be part of the problem. Issues invariably start with the CEO and senior management team and frequently include the Board.

A soft science approach may not always yield the required results as it tends to be implemented in isolation rather than in tandem with the day-to-day business of the company.  An approach that combines understanding of the business as well as its communication needs will achieve the desired result.
